Ella Jarman-Pinto (b. 1989) was born in London and raised in Cumbria. Her mother a composer and Jazz and community musician, Ella was brought up in a house of jazz, folk, world and original music and encouraged to compose from an early age. Ella began on the Composition course at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in 2007 and since has studied Composition with Julian Philips, Paul Newland, Emily Hall and Paul Whitmarsh, as well as singing with Kate Paterson. In early 2010, Ella took part in a four month Erasmus exchange at the Royal Irish Academy of Music in Dublin, studying with composer Kevin O’Connell. Ella has performed sets of her own music at Solfest in 2008 and has had pieces performed at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama as part of projects such as Tomorrow Never Knows: Celebrating the life and works of Sir George Martin (2008) and The Material’s Library in (2009), as well as in regular concerts organised by Guildhall’'s Society of New Music. In 2009, Ella took part in the School of Harmolodics, an improvisation project attached with the Southbank Centre Meltdown festival coordinated by Ornette Coleman, which resulted in two performances in the Clore Ballroom. Since early 2009, Ella has organised the Guildhall’'s Society of New Music’ concerts.
